So, you bought cuttings online and the cuttings were delivered to you and you just opened up the package, now what!
You start by opening the package, remove the cuttings, and then wash and brush them with fresh water in the sink. For this I have old toothbrushes that I have saved. For every variety that I process I use a new toothbrush and I throw away the previous one.
If the cutting has a terminal bud, I always cut it and I also cut the bottom of the cutting as well. You cut the terminal bud because you are trying to root the cuttings and you want all the energy sent to developing roots. If you left the terminal bud then the cutting would spend energy trying to grow taller and that would take energy away from the rooting process.
Well, my biggest fear is having an unidentified fig cutting. Perhaps you bought different fig varieties from the same or different vendor. The vendor will have identified the cuttings and your job is not to mix them up!
After you wash the cuttings you should wrap them in newspaper.
