A Novel Approach to Fig Tree Winter Protection

Winterizing Planted Fig Trees

Materials you will need: twine, PVC pipes, two for each bed, a hacksaw to cut the PVC pipes to length, also you will need a drill to mae the necessary four holes for each bed.

You can easily pick up PVC pipes at your local hardware store. The raised bed I was working on measured 4 by 6 feet, so I bought two 8-foot PVC pipes and trimmed each one by a foot to get the perfect fit.

Honestly, the most challenging part of the project was drilling a single hole at each end of the PVC pipes, simple, but requires a steady hand. Once that’s done, the rest is a breeze.

After the dome is secured in place, all that’s left is to drape a tarp over the frame, and you’ve got yourself a protective winter shelter for your fig tree.
