Good golly, Miss Molly, you sure know how to drive me absolutely bonkers! After five long months, this cutting has FINALLY rooted. Sometimes, rooting cuttings feels like watching elephants mate—it’s a slow, painstaking process, to say the least.
Of course, you can never be certain what’s happening beneath the surface of the rooting medium. Maybe, just maybe, there are tiny roots forming that we simply can’t see yet.
I could tell the cutting was still ‘alive’ because of its vibrant color and firm texture. If it were to die, the bark would start to dry out and shrivel up—but none of that happened here. After four months, I noticed some life stirring, with the terminal buds beginning to swell. I kept checking for roots, but there was nothing—until, out of the blue, roots suddenly appeared! Needless to say, I’m over the moon with this breakthrough.

I will not sell this cutting, but I will put it to stud (a reference from The Godfather I) and get cuttings from it. This variety does very well in zone 7+, but I am in zone 6b, but I plan to keep it in a pot and winterize it properly.

Stay tuned, keep on rootin’ and happy growing!
