Cleanliness is Next to Godliness

Well, I’m not going religious here, so let me explain. This phrase perfectly captures the importance of keeping things clean and orderly, especially when it comes to fig propagation. Clean tools and workspaces aren’t just about tidiness—they’re crucial for preventing contamination, disease, and other issues that could harm your cuttings or plants.

In fig cultivation, a little extra effort to maintain cleanliness can make all the difference in ensuring healthy growth and successful propagation. So while I’m borrowing the saying, in this context, it’s less about spirituality and more about good gardening practices!

Hydrogen peroxide is commonly used by medical professionals to disinfect equipment. It can be purchased at pharmacies and typically comes in a brown bottle.

Before I handle cuttings with a pruner or scissors, I take a paper towel, dab it in hydrogen peroxide, and thoroughly clean the part of the tool that will come into contact with the cutting. This ensures a sterile environment and reduces the risk of contamination or disease transfer.
