It’s late November here in Zone 6b (Mid-Hudson Valley, NY), and my fig trees have finally gone fully dormant—perfect timing for pruning. As always, trimming day means a bounty of cuttings, and I’m constantly on the lookout for ones that stand out in some special way. The thick cuttings are always my favorites—they root more easily and grow with vigor. The thin ones? A bit more challenging, but still worth the effort.

But this time, I found something truly unique, a naturally V-shaped cutting! I loved it the moment I spotted it. I considered splitting it into two separate cuttings, but one of the branches would’ve been too short and might have struggled to root. So I decided to keep it exactly as it is, yes, intact and full of charm.
Now the challenge? I need a name. Something fun, maybe a little whimsical, but still professional enough for the fig community. The variety is Brown Turkey, but in this case, that doesn’t really matter, it’s the shape that makes it special.
With all those nodes and healthy wood, it should root beautifully. I’ll be sure to give it some extra care—and maybe a catchy name once inspiration strikes.
Keep on rootin’, baby!
