Just look at these incredible roots! This rooted cutting is absolutely thriving and more than ready for a larger container. The roots have spread in every direction, eagerly searching for more space—it’s practically begging for a new home!
This beauty is a Pastillière (though I’ve seen it spelled in various ways), a remarkable fig variety that I purchased in late 2024 from FigBid.com. It was a thick, vigorous cutting from the start, and to my delight, it rooted effortlessly (Ref #1, Ref #2). With such strong early growth, I can’t wait to see how this one develops in the seasons to come!
I’ve decided to keep this exceptional cutting and put it to stud! With its vigorous growth and robust root system, it has all the makings of a champion fig tree. This one will serve as a foundation for future propagations, passing on its strong genetics to the next generation of thriving cuttings. A true gem in the making!

So, I’ve decided it’s time to up-pot this cutting, and I’ve got just the thing for the job—a trusty one-gallon pot. I’m always on the lookout for freebies, and throughout the year, I manage to bring home all sorts of useful finds. This pot is one of them! You know what they say: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle—and I like to think my little habit is a perfect example of that philosophy in action. But, I digress.
Now, let’s get down to business. As you can see, the bottom of this pot has drainage holes—great for healthy roots, but not so great for keeping soil off the floor. To solve this, I take a small piece of newspaper, just large enough to cover the base, and place it over the holes. This simple trick keeps the mess to a minimum while still allowing excess water to drain properly.

With that done, I begin adding rich, well-aerated potting soil, gently packing it around the rooted cutting to give it a secure new home. And just like that—mission accomplished! Another fig tree on its way to greatness.

Here I go again with my passion for recycling! As you can see, I love finding creative ways to repurpose everyday items—like this container that once held fresh mushrooms from Adams Fairacre Farms in Newburgh, New York. Rather than tossing it away, I’ve given it a second life as a catch tray to collect any excess water that drains from the bottom of the pot. Practical, sustainable, and completely free—what’s not to love?
Now, all that’s left is to wish this little fig baby the best of luck! 🌱✨ With a bit of care and patience, I hope to see it flourish, producing strong, thick cuttings that fig enthusiasts everywhere will be eager to grow. Stay tuned—this is just the beginning!
