Wallkill Library Program – Now Full!

Throughout 2025, I had the pleasure of offering eight fig-focused programs to local libraries—and to my delight, every single one reached full capacity, with waiting lists quickly forming. This response has been incredibly rewarding on multiple levels. Not only does it confirm the growing interest in fig cultivation among library patrons, but it also validates the time and effort I’ve devoted to crafting these presentations.

As a special incentive, I included a rooted fig cutting for each participant—an extra little gift to sweeten the deal and, perhaps, inspire a few new fig enthusiasts to take the plunge into growing their own.

Now, turning to Wallkill’s program: it was capped at 20 participants and filled up in no time. In fact, I even heard from patrons at other libraries who were eager to attend but found that registration had already closed. Since Wallkill’s location is fairly central, I encouraged them to try signing up there. Whether or not they managed to snag a spot, I’m not sure—but I’m hopeful I’ll find out when the program kicks off tomorrow.

I began the season with a generous collection of fig cuttings sourced from various places. Now, just a handful remain. Honestly, if I had scheduled even one more library program, I’d be in a bit of a jam—there simply wouldn’t be enough fig plants left to share with everyone.

Each program description promised one rooted fig cutting per patron. But for the Wallkill program? I’m going a step beyond. Every participant will receive a potted fig tree—a major upgrade from a simple cutting. Lucky ducks, indeed!

Truth be told, I couldn’t keep the rooted cuttings alive in their small containers any longer. They were practically begging for more space, so I up-potted them. These little fig trees—let’s call them “figgies”—have been living outside, day and night, for the past three weeks. So yes, you could say they’ve been thoroughly hardened off and are more than ready for their new homes.

I’m locked and loaded.
