My recent Pastiliere fig acquisition has been an exciting addition to my collection! I purchased four cuttings from figbid.com, but the generous seller, Roundrockroots, sent five. The entire process was seamless, and the quality of the cuttings exceeded my expectations.
The Pastiliere fig, also known by its many names—DFIC 47, Pastellère, Hirta Du Japon, Rouge De Bordeaux, and Hirta Del Giappone (Of Japan)—is a common fig variety. Being self-fertile, it doesn’t require a companion tree to produce fruit, making it a wonderful addition to any fig enthusiast’s garden.
As for these cuttings, I’m not planning to sell them. Instead, I’ll ‘put them out to stud,’ as Jack Woltz from The Godfather would say when showing off his prized Arabian horse to Tom Hagen.
I’m thrilled to report that in less than two weeks, these cuttings have already started growing roots and even sprouting tiny leaves and branches. Success! Watching them thrive fills me with excitement for the journey ahead. Yes!

Tiny roots are forming.

Tiny leaves are growing.

Check out the size of this cutting. It is HUGE!
