Fig lovers, rejoice!
About three weeks ago, I started a whole bunch of fig-pops at home using cuttings from my own varieties: Violette de Bordeaux, Red Lebanese, Brown Turkey, Magnolia, and several unknown types. In addition, I began rooting two other varieties that I purchased online: Pastilière (5 cuttings) and Campaniere (3 cuttings).
I always forget to do something very important and this year i forgot to mark each set of cuttings with the date that I started to root them. ACH!!!
At least four cutting started to root, but there may be more. Today was the very first time I checked for roots and it was such a pleasant surprise to see this progress.
As you handle the fig-pops over time, you start to develop a sense of their weight, almost like second nature. When they’re freshly watered, they feel heavier and more substantial in your hand. As the days pass and the rooting medium begins to dry out, the fig-pops grow noticeably lighter. This subtle change in weight becomes your guide, letting you know exactly when they need to be watered again. It’s a simple yet effective way to care for them, and it’s amazing how attuned you become to their needs with just a bit of practice.
