Today I made fig leaf tea. Why? Well. I have the fig leafs, water and lots of time.
Ingredients
- 5 large, fresh fig leaves
- 9 cups of water
- Honey, for sweetness
- Ice, if you want to make it into iced tea
Easy peasy, right?
Start by removing the stems from the fig leaves and washing them thoroughly. Tear the leaves into small pieces and place them in a pot with the water. Bring the water to a rolling boil and let the leaves boil for 1 minute.
Next, reduce the heat to low and let the tea gently simmer for about 10 minutes. Remove the pot from the heat and allow the tea to steep for another 5 to 10 minutes before straining out the leaves.
Enjoy it warm, or let it cool and pour it over ice. If you like a touch of sweetness, add a drizzle of honey.
The result is a wonderfully fragrant, refreshing tea that’s simple to make and a great way to enjoy fresh fig leaves. I made about nine cups today and put most of it in the refrigerator, but judging by how good it tastes, I don’t expect it to last very long!
